The Ski Heritage Center Museum of Skiing

OUR MISSION: To document, preserve, exhibit, and celebrate the history and cultural impact of skiing in Whitefish, the Flathead Valley, and Northwestern Montana.

The Ski Heritage Center Museum of Skiing is located in the historic Saddle Club cabin adjacent to Stumptown Ice Den in Mountain Trails Park. The museum features

  • Recently completed the 10th Mountain Division exhibit

  • Photographic exhibit depicting the early history of skiing in the Flathead Valley before and after the opening of the Big Mountain Ski Resort in 1947

  • Hall of Fame honoring the ski pioneers and local skiing legends

  • Life-size cutaway reproduction of the interior of the Hellroaring Ski Cabin circa 1935

  • Video library featuring rare footage of skiing in the Valley and around Montana in the 1930s, 40s, and '50s.

Coming next summer: The History of Our Ski Liftswill be an outdoor exhibit featuring chairs, motors, and/or other components from all the lifts that have operated on Big Mountain since the first rope tow in 1935.
